The Monks of Ilbtal

One of the 4 starting monasteries

Come take a look at your new monastery, Abbott! In this blog post, we will walk through the starting rooms and buildings of the monastery.

Please note these are all placeholder graphics while we playtest the game. The final product will have original artwork and beautiful landscapes for the terrain and buildings!

Production Facilities

Rooms like this are ultimately how you make money (scrip), and therefore expand and win!

The Wine Press lets you turn grapes into wine, which you can sell to the Pub.

The other starting goods are Cheese (made from Milk), Jam (made from Berries), and Ale (made from Barley).

Your monastery will also have an “outbuilding” where you produce your ingredient. You’ll place that adjacent to your monastery at the beginning of the game.

Each of these goods is unique and has a whole production chain associated with it, which we will cover in our next Blog Post!

Gruel Pot

Look, it gets the job done. Gruel was commonly used in the Medieval Era for sick people, as it mostly just broth with very little actual grain. It is the most basic food you can feed your monks, and each one will need a bowl each round!

Luckily the production chain is fairly efficient to start off, but as the game progresses, your monks will demand higher quality foods!

A place to lay your weary head

Monks traditionally had their own rooms, called “cells,” that had little more than a mat or a cot. Your monks are more concerned with sharing good meals and doing good work.

You’ll need one of these rooms for each Monk, so be sure to have an extra one ready before you go into town to recruit!

Villagers will also need a Robe, so the Sewing Kit will get them outfitted.

Can’t make money if you can’t get to market!

The Stables allow you to send monks into town to run errands! Running Errands is a complex move that allows you to do up to 5 things. We covered the Town of Ilbewiese in our last Blog Post; this building is how you get there and back.

While you are in Town, you can preach at the Chapel for free scrip, buy and sell goods, and hire various villagers to build buildings for you, or even to lease your farmland so you don’t have to do the hardest work yourself! It’s also where you’ll need to go to recruit new monks, either from the Inn or from the local population.
